Leonard Sloane, who turned 90 in January, is a New York institution and has been covering business and finance since the 1950s. He covered personal finance for decades for The New York Times and he is still a regular contributor to the Wall Street Journal.

Len discusses the ins and outs of writing about personal finance with a panel of New York’s top personal financial journalists. Learn their tricks in our latest webinar.

Panelists:

Jonathan Clements is the founder and editor of HumbleDollar. He’s also the author of a fistful of personal finance books, including From Here to Financial Happiness and How to Think About Money, and he sits on the advisory board of Creative Planning, one of the country’s largest independent financial advisors. Jonathan spent almost 20 years at The Wall Street Journal, where he was the newspaper’s personal finance columnist. After that he worked for six years at Citigroup, where he was Director of Financial Education for Citi Personal Wealth Management, before returning to the Journal for an additional 15-month stint as a columnist.

Ron Lieber has been the “Your Money” columnist for The New York Times since 2008. Before, he wrote the “Green Thumb” personal finance column for The Wall Street Journal and was part of the startup team at the paper’s Personal Journal section. He is the author of four books, most recently “The Price You Pay for College: An Entirely New Roadmap for the Biggest Financial Decision Your Family Will Ever Make”  (2021).

Darla Mercado is a markets editor for CNBC.com, based in the company’s headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, N.J. She is also Certified Financial Planner. Previously, Darla was a reporter on CNBC’s personal finance team, covering taxes and retirement planning. Before that, she wrote about life insurance, annuities and retirement plans for InvestmentNews, a publication for financial advisors. Darla earned her bachelor’s degree in English at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County and graduated from New York University with a master’s degree in journalism.

Lauren Young is a workplace, personal finance and digital expert at Reuters in New York, and the writer of Young Money, a biweekly personal finance newsletter on LinkedIn. Previously, she served as Personal Business Editor at BusinessWeek and a senior writer at SmartMoney Magazine. She started her financial journalism career at Dow Jones newswires, where she covered corporate bonds and mutual funds.
