Wall Street Journal Seeking Houston-Based Electricity & Renewables Reporter

The Wall Street Journal seeks a reporter to cover the electricity business, renewable energy and battery technologies. Electricity is the fastest-growing segment of the energy industry world-wide and is poised to grow further with the adoption of electric vehicles.

The business is in the midst of a historic transformation as natural gas, wind and solar power drop in price, displacing coal and nuclear power plants. Utilities provide some of the most essential public services, and hundreds have been targets of state-sponsored hackers, raising security concerns.

The successful candidate should possess the ability to write about the business, economic and geopolitical ramifications of all of these issues for a sophisticated global audience. Prior experience covering energy is useful but not required. Rather, candidates should have a proven ability to develop sources, master complex topics and write clearly and authoritatively. Candidates should be able to produce scoops, analytical pieces and narratives, and be eager to pursue other forms of storytelling as well. The beat also requires close cooperation with reporters in London, New York, Washington and elsewhere around the world.

The position is based in Houston, America’s energy capital and fourth-largest city.
