Quinnipiac University’s School of Communications Seeking Business Journalism Professor

Quinnipiac University’s School of Communications seeks an experienced professional in business journalism and/or financial communication to join the faculty as its Alan Abelson Endowed Professor of Business Journalism/Financial Communication beginning Fall 2021. The tenure-track professorship at the assistant or associate level will be a joint appointment in the Departments of Journalism, Media Studies and/or Strategic Communication depending on the successful candidate’s areas of expertise and experience.

Candidates must be proficient in either business journalism or financial communication with experience in multiple reporting techniques, such as data gathering and analysis, records requests, business document navigation, as well as the use of digital technologies. The position presents opportunities for cross-disciplinary pursuits across the School, University and professional institutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Since the family of the late veteran financial columnist and editor Alan Abelson also provides an annual scholarship to a Quinnipiac student, the successful candidate will be expected to administer the scholarship selection process, as well as mentor annual winners
  • Teach at least six semester-long courses per academic year
  • Expand our course offerings in business journalism and/or financial communication
  • Teach School of Communications core courses
  • Foster the trajectory of students, particularly through advising and mentoring
  • Service to the school and the university
  • Scholarly research or creative endeavors

Qualifications:

  • Preferred candidates will have achieved or be working toward a Ph.D., taught at the college level, have at least three years professional experience and evidence of excellence in professional, research or creative work.
  • Minimum qualifications include a Master’s degree in a related field, five years professional experience and some teaching experience.
  • Commitment to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community
