The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants’ Excellence in Financial Journalism Awards is now accepting submissions from journalists and reporters for its 2014 contest. The EFJ Awards honor professional and student journalists for distinguished reporting that cultivates, promotes and disseminates understanding of accounting, finance and business topics. This year marks the 31st annual contest. Judging will begin in March, winners are announced in April and a formal awards ceremony will be held May 1. Past winners of the contest include Kirsten Grind, author of “The Lost Bank: The Story of Washington Mutual – The Biggest Bank Failure in American History”; David Kaplan, Fortune; Rob Cox and Robert Cyran, Reuters Breakingviews; David Voreacos, Bloomberg News; Brian Ross of ABC News; and David Kocieniewski of The New York Times.

The Society of American Business Editors & Writers is offering two $1,000 fellowships for full-time journalists who want to attend the Society of American Business Editors and Writers Conference in Phoenix, March 27-29.
