Inter-American Development Bank Seeking Communications Senior Associate in Washington D.C.

Established in 1959, the Inter-American Development Bank (“IDB” or “Bank”) is the main source of financing for economic, social and institutional development in Latin America and the Caribbean. It provides loans, grants, guarantees, policy advice and technical assistance to the public and private sectors of its borrowing member countries.

The Office of External Relations (EXR) manages the IDB’s public communication activities, cultural events and civic outreach. EXR’s Communications Management Division (EXR/CMG) is responsible for the IDB’s public communication, media relations and audiovisual services. CMG creates content for the Bank’s social media channels, including blogs, videos, Twitter and Facebook. The CMG Front Office is also responsible for directly supporting the Office of the President in speechwriting, articles and presentations, as needed.

 
Key Accountabilities:

  •  Provide editorial services for the CMG Front Office, including moderately complex research, speechwriting, editing and fact-checking; coordination of media queries and assignments related to IDB senior management, and input into the implementation of specific events and initiatives, as needed.
  •  Produce content for the IDB’s social media channels, including research, writing and editing of materials for the IDB’s web page and its Twitter and Facebook channels. This includes creating original material based on IDB projects and data, and leading projects of moderate complexity in coordination with other editors, sector specialists outside EXR, and graphic designers.
  •  Identify opportunities to improve tools and methodologies, as applicable.
  •  Draft speeches, opinion columns, articles, talking points, audiovisual presentations and social media content, as requested by IDB senior management. 
    • Manage a production calendar of such requests, track workflows with other EXR staff, ensure deadlines are met and quality is maintained.
  •  Work under the limited supervision of the CMG Division Chief.
  •  Provide procedural and/or task guidance to more junior staff.

Ability to write clearly, concisely and with impact in multiple languages, as well as edit the writing of others.
  4. Media Design and Development: Creates audience impact and enthusiasm by employing appropriate media types (e.g., electronic, print, audiovisual, multimedia).

    Qualifications: 
    Education: Master’s degree in communications, international relations, or other related field. 
    Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience. 
    Language(s): Fluency in Spanish and English. Additional intermediate proficiency in Portuguese desirable.
