You must have excellent writing and copy editing skills as you will likely be called upon to take copy and write some of the biggest stories of the day. Experience with big corporate stories would be ideal.You have to be both precise with language and able to express complex ideas for specialist and general audiences. You must be able to speedily edit copy while enforcing Reuters standards and offering suggestions for improvements in the next story updates. The successful candidate should be calm under pressure, able to juggle competing demands and be as engaged with reporters and bureau chiefs as with the copy itself.
Working closely with reporting teams, the Americas Desk handles the biggest spot stories in this region, from New York to Los Angeles, Toronto to Sao Paulo. We are looking for an editor who can help us shape the file, who is comfortable guiding story discussions in chatrooms and on email, and who can collaborate with photos, graphics, video and online news.You will be expected to work some late and weekend shifts.

Qualifications
- At least 5 years of journalism experience, ideally in a broad range of areas including financial news
- A fast and accurate writer; superb copy editing skills
- Strong news judgment and ability to shape a story by asking smart questions and challenging premises
- Calm under pressure; ability to make quick and sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Good communication skills and strong team ethic
