ProPublica is seeking an assistant social editor to manage our social media accounts and create original content that amplifies and aids ProPublica’s journalism on social platforms.
The assistant social editor will leverage audience data to grow ProPublica’s presence and readership across Facebook, Twitter and other social networks. He or she will also engage journalists and readers in conversations and collaborative experiences that help build our community; experiment with new social tools and help train ProPublica journalists to leverage them effectively for news gathering and engagement purposes; and write/report/create original content that extends the reach of our journalism on social platforms.
Our ideal candidate is a social media newshound with prior journalism experience and a demonstrated ability to write copy that is both accurate, compelling and attuned to the various social platforms. This person is as adept with GIFs as Excel spreadsheets, and is passionate about journalism that serves the public interest.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of journalism experience. Reporting or blogging experience (clips) required
- Impeccable news judgment and experience vetting/verifying information on deadline
- Experience using social analytics to determine social ROI
- Working knowledge of Web production and HTML
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and environment
- Strong team player with desire to collaborate with others
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Experience producing and editing multimedia (photos, audio, video or animation) a plus
