The Metals Editor will be responsible for researching new areas of coverage, expanding and deepening market content and analysis, and directing and editing news coverage. Argus’ metals team currently consists of three reporters and successfully managing the expansion of this team will be an important measure of editorial success. Strong leadership skills are necessary to develop and guide our growing coverage of steel and non-ferrous metals markets. The position reports to the Managing Editor and will be responsible for daily and weekly market reports.
We are willing to look at candidates from major market cities, and if these candidates are not willing to move to Houston, will allow the selected candidate to remain in her or his current city.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Providing thought-leadership and day-to-day guidance for the editorial team.
- Overseeing price assessments and their underlying methodologies.
- Promoting meetings with industry and investigating changes in the markets and its key players.
- Guiding and editing coverage of daily commentary and news while helping to report news when necessary.
- Posting news and commentary online.
- Guiding and promoting original analysis of the markets.
- Editing weekly reports for clarity and accuracy.
Required Qualifications:
- The legal authorization to work in the US for any US employer.
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or other relevant field, or in lieu of degree, significant experience in a related, relevant field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in metals or markets journalism.
- The willingness and ability to travel up to 40% of the time in order to fulfill the responsibilities of this position. Some travel may be international.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills and ability to network.
- The willingness and ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Strong math and Excel skills.
- The ability to provide strong, quick and accurate analysis to the department and Managing Editor.
- The willingness and ability to handle multiple tasks on a tight deadline.
- Strong co-ordination and leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous management experience of an editorial team.
- Start-to-finish project management experience.
- A strong understanding and background in journalism.
- The willingness and ability to speak publicly.
- Spanish or French language capability.
