The Modern Markets Initiative is an advocacy effort organized by some of the industry’s leading quantitative trading firms. The initiative is focused on demonstrating the benefits of algorithmic or quantitative trading, often referred to as high-frequency trading, in today’s modern markets.
In an electronic marketplace, technological innovations have contributed to greater market efficiency for market participants as well as the regulators responsible for market oversight. High frequency trading firms and the market professionals behind them are harnessing technology to enhance price transparency and increase access to markets for investors that was previously only available to a select few. Investors, particularly the retail investor, have benefited from the modernization of both market technology and regulations, providing a marketplace with lower costs that is also more efficient, transparent and competitive.
The Modern Markets Initiative aims to engage and inform policymakers, media stakeholders, regulators and investors about the value provided by high frequency trading and modern market professionals, as well as the essential role technological innovations play in increasing the integrity of today’s marketplace.
Job Description
We are seeking an analyst/media relations professional who will be responsible for:
- Developing professional written content for publication
- Our interactions with mainstream and trade media and other stakeholders
- Coordinating our digital media strategy
The job requires regular production of short postings, event-driven analyses and strategic arguments that will be used internally, distributed to the media, and included on our web site.

The position will have a high profile within our organization including regular interaction with our member firms as well as with external media, so the ability to communicate clearly and succinctly is a must. There is significant opportunity for advancement as our young organization grows.
Health insurance and other benefits are provided. Although we prefer a full-time candidate we are open to discussing part-time and other flexible arrangements such as working from home.
Desired Skills
- The position requires the ability to write clearly about trading and markets, and the ideal candidate will have experience writing regularly.
- Prior employment as a financial journalist, research analyst or financial services marketing/public relations professional is preferable.
- Knowledge of automated, algorithmic and/or high frequency trading is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred and/or at least two years of relevant experience in any of the above areas.
