Wall Street Journal Seeking Reporter for Middle East Bureau

The Wall Street Journal’s Middle East Bureau is seeking a reporter to cover the increasingly intertwined conflicts and issues of the region. The Middle East is experiencing an historic period of change. Once surprisingly stable despite its history of turbulence, the region is now erupting in home-grown struggles that cross borders and challenge long-entrenched regimes. It is one of the most challenging reporting arenas in the world. The ideal candidate for this job would have experience working in conflict zones and be well-versed in the history and make-up of the region. They would have a proven record of producing both breaking news stories on deadline and longer, ambitious enterprise journalism. They would be adept at employing social media and video technology in their reporting.

The position will likely be based in either Beirut or Cairo, and the reporter will be expected to contribute to coverage of a wide range of countries in the region, with a special focus on one particular counter or part of the region, depending on the blend of skills and interests they bring as well as our organization’s needs over time. Arabic and/or Farsi would be extremely helpful, though is not required.
