Wall Street Journal Seeking New York State Politics Reporter

We are looking for an ambitious reporter to cover New York state politics. The heart of the beat is the governor and state house. The successful reporter will identify and cover high-impact stories and issues crossing the governor’s agenda which range from gun control, to sexual-harassment legislation, to New York City’s housing and transport needs. It is an election year and Gov. Andrew Cuomo, running for a third term, is facing a primary challenge from Cynthia Nixon who keeps upping the ante.

The job requires news chops as well as enterprise thinking. The reporter will be at the center of some of the biggest stories from terror attacks to transit snarls.

This beat offers the opportunity to conceptualize ambitious storytelling for all platforms, online and in print. The beat is based in New York City, with the expectation that the reporter will spend time reporting in Albany.

The reporter will write for the Greater New York section as well the rest of the paper and online. New York is an important story nationally that we want to dominate. We put a big value on the ability to collaborate with colleagues. We are looking for someone with a track record of breaking news and doing memorable work.
