ThinkAdvisor.com seeks an energetic and creative Staff Reporter with an editor’s mind for details and an ability to easily handle the software and platforms necessary to publish on a robust financial news website. The candidate must be able to clearly write breaking news and long-term features that affect the financial services industry centered on investment advisors.

Responsibilities:

  • Build a strong base of relevant contacts within the financial services industry in order to gain a deep understanding of investment advisors, which will allow you to find the best stories to report on
  • Monitor assigned beats via press releases and other contacts then find and write quickly on topics 
  • Write stories quickly for topics assigned by editor 
  • Collaborate with reporters, Managing Editor or Executive Editor on breaking or feature stories
  • Interview senior figures within financial services firms
  • Write 1-2 daily news stories for ThinkAdvisor and write inviting headlines that embrace SEO best practices
  • Write 2 weekly interviews/features or news analyses for the site 
  • Proficiently post stories in Content Managing System, adding any necessary links, photos or charts, with confidence to publish if necessary.
  • Post stories on social media platforms
  • Attend local forums and conferences and report on topics
  • Travel and stay overnight at various cities in US to report on industry events
  • Perform in podcasts and video interviews
  • Edit and publish copy, if necessary, of other reporters’ content

 

Qualifications

  • Must be able to write clearly, engagingly and authoritatively—and on tight deadlines.
  • Must be able to establish and nurture relationships with professionals in financial services and public relations, handling in-person and phone interviews.
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced environment and have the ability to juggle daily stories on tight deadlines with features and analysis.
  • Must be able to write 1-2 stories a day and at least two enterprise stories a month.
  • Must have a positive, can-do attitude and be a self-starter.
  • Must have good communication, organization and time management skills.
  • Must be creative, curious and enthusiastic about using social platforms, video, interactive data, and other digital tools to enhance reporting and connect with readers.
  • 3+ years of full-time writing experience, preferably in B2B media, with at least three years’ experience writing about financial services, along with some editing.  
  • Social media savvy and ability to plan and distribute content accordingly
  • Four-year journalism degree or similar is preferable
  • Technically adept at navigating a CMS and other publishing platforms and software
  • Adept at creating slideshows, infographics, quizzes and using other content formats

Candidates should provide links to 3-5 writing samples. Candidates might be asked to take a writing test.

Salary:  up to $50,000/yr.
