InfraLatinAmerica Seeks Senior Reporter in Brazil

InfraLatinAmerica is seeking a Senior Reporter to join the Sao Paulo editorial team.The reporter will be dedicated to making sure that InfraLatinAmerica is first with early and original reporting on greenfield and brownfield infrastructure tenders as well as corporate mergers and acquisitions in the sector. Coverage will include financing related to these deals and activities surrounding national, state and private infrastructure projects.

This position would be an ideal move for an enterprising reporter keen to establish himself or herself at a growing company as a leading scoopster in one of the most exciting and fast growing sectors in the financial service industry.  The opportunity comes at a time of great focus on the Brazil market as it rebounds from the Lava Jato scandal, a recession and faces a presidential election.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Writing a minimum of six and up to 15 or more news stories a week for the InfraLatinAmerica bulletins, around one third of which should be exclusive.
  • Providing in depth coverage of M&A and project finance activity such as government tenders, deals and corporate players.
  • Writing at least one analysis a month on a news-driven subject of interest to InfraLatinAmerica
  • Assisting with production of content for planned InfraLatinAmerica
  • Regular meetings with the São Paulo and elsewhere-based infrastructure investment banking and corporate community members.
  • Building strong relationships with development banks such as BNDES; also with federal, state, municipal and procurement officials involved with privately financed infrastructure projects.
  • Writing short and succinct news stories to deadline.
  • Sticking to deadlines laid down by the Editor and ensuring swift delivery of copy to an acceptable standard.
  • Liaising with commercial and events teams and industry participants for feedback for events content.

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in English and Portuguese
  • 1+ year experience reporting on the Brazil acquisition and project finance areas
  • Strong list of contact among investment bankers and other advisors
  • Knowledge of infrastructure knowledge is preferred
  • Proven track record of breaking big M&A stories before the competition
  • Self-starter who is able to generate stories, while remaining flexible on fielding assignments from both editors
