InfraLatinAmerica and InfraAmericas Seeking Funds & M&A Correspondent, Americas

Reporting to the Editors of InfraLatinAmerica and InfraAmericas, as well as and the Managing Editor of Inframation Group in their absence. The role is dedicated to making sure that InfraLatinAmerica and InfraAmericas are first with scoops on mergers and acquisitions within the North and Latin American infrastructure sectors. Reportage should also include detailed information on the financing related to these deals, as well as activities of infrastructure funds in the market.

There are also some responsibilities assisting the editor with editing copy, proofing headlines and working with the writing team in an entrepreneurial environment in New York City.

The role would suit a senior reporter with one or more years’ experience reporting on the M&A market. Fluency in Spanish is required. A strong list of contacts among investment bankers and other advisors is essential. Knowledge of the infrastructure sector would be a plus but is not a primary requirement if you can show that you understand what a news scoop is and have a proven track record of breaking big M&A stories before the competition.  This position would be an ideal move for an enterprising reporter keen to establish himself or herself as a leading scoopster in one of the most exciting and fast growing sectors in the financial service industry.  The opportunity comes at a time of record-breaking capital raising by private equity infrastructure funds.

The ideal candidate would be a self-starter who is able to generate stories, while remaining flexible on fielding assignments from both editors.

Main duties

  • Writing a minimum of ten or more news stories a week for the InfraLatinAmerica and InfraAmericas bulletins, around one third of which should be exclusive. Providing in depth coverage of M&A and fund activity such as fund raising, deployment, deals and institutional investors providing capital.
  • Writing monthly analyses on a news-driven subject of interest to both InfraAmericas and InfraLatinAmerica
  • Assisting with production of content for planned InfraAmericas and InfraLatinAmerica events in consultation with Inframation management and InfraLatinAmerica/InfraAmericas

This will involve

  • Regular meetings with the New York and elsewhere-based infrastructure investment and corporate community.
  • Writing short and succinct M&A news stories to deadline.
  • Writing longer form analysis pieces one a month to deadline.
  • Helping with editing copy of the team and the Editor so that it is fit for publication.
  • Supervising bulletin runs in the Editor’s absence.
  • Assisting with staging site checks prior to copy and pictures going live.
  • Sticking to deadlines laid down by the Editors and ensuring swift delivery of copy to an acceptable standard.
  • Liaising with commercial and events teams and industry participants for feedback for events content
